Policies, procedures, and practices for candidate recruitment and admission, and accessibility to candidates and the education community

The process of selection of candidates begins at the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research, based on the criteria established by that Deanship and the DGS. These normative practices are published in the institutional catalogs and other related documents and promotional materials (DEGI-Admissions). In coordination with the graduate programs, the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research conducts continuous reviews of information regarding admissions procedures and required documentation. All information on programs and the admission process are available online.

Once the candidates apply through the Electronic Admission System (Apply Yourself) administered by the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research, the information is accessed by the DGS administrative personnel and forwarded to the Academic Areas. Each Academic Area in the DGS has criteria for admissions based on the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research general admissions policies. In general, candidates are expected to meet a minimum GPA of 3.00 as verified in the academic transcript, present EXADEP or GRE scores, participate in an interview, and provide letters of recommendation. These criteria are evaluated using a formula that assigns the applicant a total score. The decisions are made according to candidate’s performance in the above mentioned criteria and the number of applicants that can be admitted to the program. The areas recommend the prospective candidates that meet their requirements to enter each particular program. The internal process for admission is established in an administrative document (DGS Internal Admissions Manual, available as an exhibit).

The DGS has a Special and Transitory Permit Policy that takes into account the specific professional requirements of the Academic Areas (DGS Transitory and Special Permission Policy, available as an exhibit). In addition, there is a Policy for Special Permit for Undergraduate Candidates that seeks to recruit advanced students (with 3.5 minimum GPA) from the College of Education as well as other colleges and faculties of the Campus (DGS Undergraduate Study Permit Policy, available as an exhibit). Also, a recent initiative from the DEG Chairperson seeks to grant early admission to recent EMH-CE graduates with a 3.3 minimum GPA (Programa Piloto de Admisión Temprana, PPAT).  The final decision on admissions is informed to the candidates by the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research. In addition, the DGS sends letters with specific information about the admission and registration, or reconsideration procedures.
